The House System

Frome College has five Houses, named after planets: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, and Neptune. Students are assigned to one of these Houses when they enter Year 9 and remain in the same House until Year 11. The House system fosters a sense of community and friendly competition through various activities like assemblies, charity fundraisers, and the annual Sports Day. Being part of a House allows students to work together towards common goals while developing school spirit and teamwork skills.

"Frome College’s examination results continue to be exceptionally strong, but we strongly believe success is about much more than just exams and are proud of the wide variety of experiences on offer to our students.

Developing students who want to do their best is a large part of our vision in Jupiter House. Jupiter students are encouraged to see that it is worth making an effort and persevering with a task even when it feels a challenge to reach. The aim is for students to adopt excellent learning behaviours which require real effort. Jupiter students enjoy this challenge and thrive on school life. They know they are in a safe environment where the support is always there if required.

The success in Jupiter House is a result of high quality teaching and support from staff; excellent attitudes to learning and effort by our students and outstanding support from our parents and carers and the wider community. I remain grateful for this and look forward to seeing your child fully engage with and enjoy school life to not only achieve the very best possible results but also make memories and lasting friendships during their time in Jupiter House."

Welcome from Mr Forrest

Hello, my name is Mr Forrest and I teach Science and Chemistry. Welcome to Mars House! Frome College is my second destination in my teaching career following a ten year employment at a single sex academy in Bath. I grew up in Glasgow and moved to Bath in 2006 for a swimming scholarship at Bath University where I also studied Pharmacology. I represented the Universities ‘Performance Student-Athlete Programme’ and completed in numerous World and European international competitions for Scotland and Great Britain. In 2010 I made the tough decision to retire from elite level sport and focus on my degree and trained as a teacher soon after. I am still involved in swimming through coaching the next generations of competitive swimmers at Bradford on Avon Swimming Club. The students within our House say I am approachable, honest and trustworthy and teach with a firm but fair approach. I value an ethos where everyone has something to offer no matter their race, sexuality or background.

Deputy Head of Mars House - Miss A Wilson

Miss A Wilson

Welcome from Miss Wilson

Hello, I am Miss Wilson and I have taught PE and Dance at Frome College for the last 4 years. My key values as Deputy Head of Mars are for students to thrive in College and enjoy their learning whilst having lots of different opportunities and experiences. I strive to have my own success so would encourage all students in Mars to follow this ethos as well. I studied Sport and Exercise Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University and also completed my PGCE in Physical Education at the University of Exeter. I love to travel and visit lots of different countries, and as a result lived in Dubai for 18 months. My passions are Netball and Swimming and I will often be found training or competing in these sports.

"Neptune House's ethos is "Responsibility means being accountable for your actions. Accept responsibility for your learning, and you will unlock amazing opportunities." The focus on responsibility encompasses different aspects of learning, behaviour, and attitude.

Positive behaviour is essential at Frome College and highly valued in Neptune House. I expect all Neptune students to be caring, conscientious, and reflective learners, always making positive decisions and contributions. I believe this is crucial for providing the best opportunity and making your time at Frome College as fulfilling as possible for yourself and the wider community.

Responsibility for actions also means participating in wider school activities. With limited time at Frome College before age 16, I encourage all students to try new activities and seize opportunities to positively represent the school. This will not only be enjoyable but also teach valuable life skills and prepare you for future opportunities after leaving Frome College.

I hope all Neptune students take advantage of everything Frome College offers, make positive contributions, and make the most of their time here."

"Saturn's House ethos is that "you are what you do repeatedly" The Saturn House Team supports students to forge pathways for making good choices, having healthy relationships and to be adventurous. We have extremely high expectations of respect, fairness, presentation, punctuality, hard work, effort, getting involved ultimately leading to excellent progress and achievement. All students feel they belong in Saturn House and we ensure there are equal opportunities and equity for all the community. Tutors are exceptionally encouraging and supportive but will challenge all students to try new projects and experiences.

Students are proud to wear our orange tie and by taking every opportunity to make a positive contribution to Frome College and the wider community, the happier more fulfilled and successful citizens students will be. As students travel through their journey with Saturn House, they can fully participate in their own learning which provides them with the skills and resources for later life. We want them to say "I'm glad I did" rather than "I wish had" when it is time to take their next steps."

"Venus, the second planet from the Sun in our solar system is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty and is the only planet to be named after a female god. Unlike the planet, which is inhospitable with an atmosphere of carbon dioxide and sulphuric acid, and high pressure on its surface, Venus House will be inclusive and a safe environment for everyone.

I expect everyone associated with Venus House, to be polite, respectful, tolerant, and understanding of others.Everyone should be prepared to give their best and make a positive contribution.

As a member of Venus House, we will set high standards and aim to be role models for others. The tutors will be supportive and encouraging but expect them to challenge where necessary. Tutors are the first person you will see each day and they will be interested in hearing news of clubs and activities you do outside school.

I hope everyone will play a full part in the activities of the House and try something new, perhaps venturing outside your comfort zone."
