Frome College Radio Club
The Radio Club is held in N14 on Mondays between 3 – 4pm.
Shows are regularly broadcast from the FromeFM radio station at the Town Hall. (Dates and times vary. Parents are sent letters each time).
Working in collaboration with community radio station FromeFM offers students of all abilities the chance to be part of the planning, presentation and editing of regular live broadcast shows and special events. The aim of the Radio Club is not just to make radio features about College, but to help students engage with the wider community in Frome, whilst gaining valuable communication and technical skills along the way – as well as having a lot of fun!
Students are required to make their own way to and from the Town Hall. There is no charge to join the Radio Club, but students may be asked to take part in fundraising activities to pay for training and equipment, and parents are encouraged to become ‘Friends of FromeFM’, details of which can be found online at To join, or for more details, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. News Desk
Wednesdays, 3 – 4pm in the Library
The College has a double page feature published in the Frome Standard newspaper on the last Thursday of each month. This is open to ALL students at college, to write news items about things of interest or activities they are involved in – from trips, sports events, music gigs, art exhibitions, theatre performances, and general news from around the College or in clubs outside of school. Everyone is welcome to come along and get involved, whether on a regular basis, or as a one-off piece of news. Get House points and obtain great work experience for your CVs. College productions are performed annually in the Merlin Theatre and past successes include:

  • A Midsummer Night's Dream
  • The Crucible
  • The Caucasian Chalk Circle
  • Grease
  • Romeo and Juliet

A Level pieces are performed in the drama studio as well as our annual GCSE performance evening ‘Just Originals’ which showcases our Year 11 work every April.

Exchanges and visits

Our French and German exchange programme is based on Frome’s twin towns, Chateau Gontier and Murrhardt.

Every year we have an extensive programme of foreign visits. In past years these have included historical studies of the First World War Battlefields, Business Studies trips to Berlin, visits to art exhibitions in Amsterdam and Paris, Religion and Philosophy trips to Rome, skiing trips to various parts of Europe and Design Technology trips to Rome and Barcelona.

Educational visits within this country are regularly arranged by many curriculum teams. These include theatre visits for English and Drama, fieldwork for Geography and Biology and tours of the Houses of Parliament for those studying Government and Politics. Our link with Villiers Park Residential centre offers our A Level students opportunities for advanced study weeks. Kilver Court also offers opportunities for able students in a number of subject areas.

Over 100 students have instrumental tuition in College with specialist visiting tutors - several students have passed Grade 8 with distinction. Where possible there is continuity of teacher between the Middle School and College.

These musicians help make up various music groups such as the College Band, String Ensemble, College Choir, Wind Group, the Sax group and String and Wind quartets. Regular performances are held throughout the year.

We play competitive fixtures and cup competitions in many sports at local, county, national and international level.

An extensive programme of house competitions takes place in team sports and we have open competitions in individual sports such as squash and tennis.
