The Frome College Radio Club recently completed their Fromefm Broadcast Code & OFCOM Awareness Course.  On Wednesday 2 May, they were awarded certificates by Fromefm’s Training Director, Rupert Kirkham, and College Principal, Ms Reynolds.

The students all passed with over 90% scores.  This now means they can help with studio management, and briefing their radio show guests on the responsibilities that govern community radio.

The student led Radio Club make features about life at Frome College, as well as wider local, national and global issues that matter to them. It enables young people of all abilities to work with, and get to know people within the wider community.  This in turn, allows them to have a say in services that affect them, and to develop the confidence and expertise to articulate what is important to them, providing vital skills and experience that will last a lifetime.

On Saturday 5 May, the College Radio Club hosted a 24 hour live takeover of community radio station Fromefm to raise funds for their project and help provide mental health counselling for students.

A host of live shows continued through until Sunday 6 May with special guests Paul Ross and Tony Christie; interactive Maths, Science & English lessons; a play and plenty of music.  The shows gained messages of support from all over the UK as well as Houston, Montego Bay, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne.

The total of funds raised from the takeover was a staggering £1,855! If you would like to support this project, the donation page is still open until 26 May on the Fromefm website at www.Frome.Fm/24
Podcasts of the shows are also available on the website.
