Congratulations go to Aimee Applegate in Year 13, who has been awarded the Specialised Chef Scholarship. The course includes: Kitchen & Larder, Patisserie & Confectionery, Health, Safety & Hygiene, Food Service & dealing with customers, Culinary & Conversational French, Husbandry & Food issues, and Gastronomy.
Aimee said: “In 2015, I took part my very first catering event; the Frome Rotary Chef Competition where I had to create 2 dishes – a main course and a dessert – within 2 hours and present it to several judges.
After coming 3rdplace; I had learned a few valuable assets about myself. My standards within this competition were very high and I was only willing to present my best work.
My Nan was heavily involved in the catering industry throughout her working life from silver service through to becoming a commis chef. She is a huge inspiration of mine and I feel as though this passion of mine runs through my blood.
My Mother – Lisa Applegate – had booked her and myself on a cooking demonstration in Bath where I had the chance to meet Ben Taylor. We discussed the passion in which we both share and with his years of experience, he had recommended me to consider applying for the Specialised Chefs Course at Bournemouth College.
The Specialised Chef Scholarship is a prestigious 3 year advanced apprenticeship which will offer me the opportunity to train in all aspects of professional cookery to the highest level. The Scholarship is arranged by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and is managed by the Bournemouth & Poole College.
After graduation, I will receive the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Diploma in Professional Cookery and as a specialised chef, will be able to work in prestigious hotels and restaurants throughout the world.”
We wish her every success in the future.
