An impressive 3 Chief Scout’s Gold Awards were given out at an awards presentation for the 1st and 7th Frome Scouts.

Frome College students Jess Lee and Amy Cotterell in Year 10, and Steph Verwey in Year 9, all achieved the highest possible award a Scout can earn, and this represents the culmination of their work throughout their time with the Scouts.

The Chief’s Scout Gold Award is given once all 9 Challenge Awards have been completed, ranging from the outdoors and creative challenges to the teamwork and team leader challenges.

In order to earn the Expedition Challenge Badge, Jess, Amy and Steph planned an expedition over 2 days. They travelled to Lyme Regis by public transport and camped overnight, having carried all of their kit. They also prepared all of their meals throughout the trip.  On top of the full collection of challenge awards, each Scout must also have completed 6 activity badges, hence why the Chief Scout’s Gold Award represents a huge achievement.

Richard Newland, Scout Leader, said, “This is the first time in several years that we have awarded the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, so to be able to present 3 is fantastic. These Scouts worked extremely hard to complete all of the challenges, and have had real fun along the way.”

The 1st and 7th Frome Scouts are always keen to recruit more volunteers to help run their exciting programme of activities for young people.  Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would like more information.
