Our very vibrant and lively Frome College welcomed a full house on Thursday 20 September, when it opened its doors for everyone to come and see the largest range of courses in the area, and all that it offers the students who attend.

The Open Evening began with a welcome from the Principal, Emma Reynolds, in the campus Merlin Theatre, who introduced the Frome College Choir performing Down by the river to pray’.

Following the performance, Ms Reynolds gave a confident speech about the record exam results this year, and the strong commitment to continue development of the school, and ensure a well-rounded education is in place for every child to reach their full potential.  She spoke proudly about the continued trend of success, and the aspirations and expectations of the school for the future, generating great life chances for every student. Ms Reynolds highlighted the choices in the important key areas, and a progression curriculum which begins in Year 9, right through to the post sixteen stages, making a seamless transition in to the Sixth Form. She spoke with enthusiasm about the Colleges’ programme of Employability and Apprenticeships working closely with the community, and how important it is to offer students valuable experience for their chosen next steps when leaving school. She spoke warmly of the commitment from the dedicated team of staff, and although Ofsted reported Frome College as ‘Good’ again this year, the Leadership Team and Governors are committed to continuing improvement of the school, and encouraging our young people to aim high.

Representatives from the Student Union followed by talking about their experiences at the College and assured the audience how easy the transition had been from previous schools with such a supportive pastoral care system, and the great sense of community. They also spoke about the large range of activities and participation opportunities available, such as trips, Drama productions, and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.

Assistant Principal, Mrs West, finished the sessions with information to parents about the evening ahead, offering personal student guides to accompany them around the site to see points of interest. Visitors were given the opportunity to see all the subject areas, and discuss the options available.

It was fantastic to see so many families participating in activities, and finding out about the wide range of courses on offer. There were plenty of opportunities for everyone to have refreshments throughout the evening, including a super selection of ‘Scones from around the world’ prepared by the Food Technology students and staff.

There will be a Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 29 November at 5.30pm. If you were unable to attend the Open Evening, please don’t hesitate to contact the College on 01373 465353 to arrange a tour of the campus and discuss the wide range of options available.
