Students from local schools along with 8 Frome College students from Years 9 & 10 entered the Rotary Creative Writing Competition.
The students were asked to write a style of text of their choice on the theme ‘Reflection’.
Ms Franklin, teacher of English said: ‘I am very proud of the efforts of my young writers. Their work displays talent and confidence and I am sure that it will serve them well in later years.’
All the work was judged by a panel in Bath, and after much deliberation, Abi Thorne in Year 9 won the Intermediate Event. She will go through to the Regional Final later in the year.
On Tuesday 21 March, David Gerhardt and Gerry Atkinson from the Rotary Club, presented certificates to the winners at an award ceremony at Frome College.
Daniel Hopkins aged 10, from Springmead School in Beckington, also won his category, and came to the presentation at Frome College.
Both Abi and Daniel received their awards, and spoke to the Rotarians about what inspired their creative writing, and what their interpretation of the theme meant to them. Principal, Mr Ball said how proud he was of their achievements and how important articulate literacy skills are in all aspects of life.
Congratulations to them both!
