On 20 May about 55 former pupils plus around 10 guests gathered at Frome College for their annual reunion. The day was a little showery and the group photo was quickly taken between the showers.
We were joined by Frome College Principal, Gavin Ball, with his wife on his right, and Jane Davis, Communications Officer at the College, on his left.
At least 12 former pupils were visiting for the first time, which is most encouraging. The most distant traveller was Dr Richard Tan from Singapore, who also brought members of his family to see his old school. The oldest member of the group was Dr Fred Morgan who was Head Boy in 1947. Fred’s brother John and sister Liz were also there. Other siblings included Stan and Eileen Berry, and Rosemary and Carol Mapstone (maiden names).
Principal, Gavin Ball, is moving on to a new post as Executive Head of the Wessex Learning Trust based in Cheddar. The Frome Ex-Students Association (FESA) wished to record its appreciation for his support from 2012 to 2017. He was presented with a framed picture of the school from about 1954, by June Barnes MBE, Chair of FESA. Frome Museum displayed some of their collection about Frome Grammar School and a set of photographs from 1947 were donated by Barbara Rogers. Copies of these were provided for visitors to write names on. This was also true for a collection of c1960 photos from Stan Berry. These names will be added to the growing on-line store of pictures, which is made available to FESA members.
May we thank Frome College for hosting the event and particularly Jane Davis for her enthusiastic help, both leading up to the event and on the day itself.

The College hosted the Frome Ex-Students Association (FESA) annual reunion on Saturday 21 May.
Principal, Gavin Ball welcomed the group with members of his staff, and pupils who kindly volunteered to spend their Saturday afternoon sharing stories and showing guests around the College site.
June Barnes, chair of ‘FESA’ thanked the staff of the College for their enthusiastic help, and for the first time also welcomed Frome Heritage Museum to the event, which put on an excellent display of old Frome Grammar School artifacts and encouraged FESA members to donate memorabilia to the museum.
If you would like to donate any artifacts to the museum, please contact Diana Ingram on 01373 454611.
It was good to welcome a number of members who were visiting for the first time, and everyone said it was very enjoyable returning to the place that had such an influence in their lives over 50 years ago.
We hope that current students will get the same pleasure when they return in 50 year’s time.
Over 90 members of FESA gathered in glorious sunshine. For the full report, please click on the photo below.
